The Art of War (Shambhala Library) Kindle Edition

The Thomas Cleary translation is for me the translation that is most accessible to a western reader who sees the book for the first time. That it also happens to be the greatest translation of chapter six which is arguably the most difficult to translate is a bonus. This book is a must read for everyone interested in strategic thinking.

It is great the way Sun Tzu's knowledge is presented here along with other authors, enriching the concepts of war. Truly a book beyond time an space very relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. This book is a must for people in leadership positions

Very interesting take on the translation with explanation of Master Sun's original thoughts on the art of war and it's potential consequences.

The concepts in this book stay true even now. The purposes contained are strong advice that when applied, transform the reader who studies this book. This is the textbook for life.

This book has very positive reviews on goodreads so I thought to try it. I found the author was very repetitive, and the book is poorly structured. It felt like walking in circles (in the dark). My expectation was that it would offer an interesting perspective on strategy and some insight on game theory but the book is outdated and basic. I'm not sure how intelligent army commanders and intelligence chiefs have to be but I doubt very much that many of them will find it enlightening. I think there are some bits of ancient Chinese wisdom coming out but it's sporadic and very spaced out. Some may have enjoyed this book but I found it patronising, simplistic and full of subjective wisdom.

英語版CDとkindle版のテキストを購入しました。基本的に一対一の内容となっていますが、CD側はCAO CAO(曹操）の部分がCommentary（注釈）となっております。AmazonClassics Edition版のものとは内容が若干違いますので御注意ください。尚、ネイティブの英語に慣れていない方は日本語のテキストが必須だと思います。守屋先生や超訳のものでなく曹操注釈があるものを購入してください。時々日本人からすると「え？」みたいな英語で書かれていたりします。
